Philippe Richer

Lawyer & Principal

Philippe had worn many hats before beginning his career as a lawyer. He spent time in the army, he worked in sales, and for a brief time, while in law school, was a baker at a local bakery. After a divorce, Philippe decided to go to law school in Manitoba to pursue his 3rd career.

Philippe is multilingual. After travelling to Mexico regularly, he is completely fluent in tourist Spanish and of course French. He also enjoyed the time he spent touring Europe, experiencing the culture, food and history there. On the weekend Philippe will usually be cycling or skiing. He likes to live actively with his partner, Cheryl.

Philippe is very knowledgeable in multiple areas of law. While he used to practice criminal law. He now mainly focuses on  Real Estate Law, Wills and Estate Planning.   He taught the français juridique class at the faculty of law for 5 years.  Philippe also supports the local community, having served as President of the Francophone Chamber of commerce and as director of various local boards.

Cheryl Pearson

Lawyer Co-Owner

Cheryl developed her legal skills working mostly as a corporate and commercial and real estate lawyer. She has worked on a variety of commercial transactions ranging from helping sole proprietors sell their small business to very large transactions involving US parties. Cheryl enjoys the challenge of negotiating through difficult transactions and fighting for her clients.

Cheryl also enjoys spending time with her spouse (Philippe, the other co-owner), and her dog, Milou (who can often be found under her desk at work.).  They like to walk, cycle, ski, hike and run. Cheryl is an avid runner and likes to go on cycling trips with Philippe and Milou (who enjoys either running alongside, or riding in the trailer).

Darryl Strain

Lawyer

Darryl joined the TLR team in 2020 after his call to the Manitoba Bar earlier that year. His practice cover TLR’s core areas: estate planning (wills, POAs, health care directives), estate administration, real estate, and corporate matters.  He enjoys taking a creative approach to help clients achieve their goals, and has found that simple solutions often work best.  Darryl has appeared in both the Court of King’s Bench and Manitoba Provincial Court.

Before practicing law, Darryl enjoyed a distinguished career as a professional musician, most notably as Principal Second Violin with the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra. He stays closely connected to the musical community as a board member for the Winnipeg Youth Orchestras and continues to perform at events in Winnipeg and beyond.  While music remains a lifelong passion, his primary focus is now on practicing law.

Outside the office, Darryl values time with his two daughters, who—willingly or not—are frequent recipients of his excellent “dad jokes.” At his bilingual home, he speaks French with his daughters and his Montréalaise fiancée, Julie, a talented violinist with the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra. They all share a weakness for fluffy cats, and despite Darryl’s better judgment, two now reside at home. When not working Darryl gets a kick out of his taekwondo classes and enjoys fresh air on his bike or while walking through Fort Whyte’s scenic nature trails.

Tania Toth

Real Estate Paralegal

Before starting her career as a paralegal, Tania was a skilled bartender and server for over a decade! She has been with us since 2018 and we’ve kept her busy ever since! Often on the weekend she spends her time with family and playing with her 6 mini goats. Yes, that’s right, I said 6! She recently got her first snowmobile, she likes to take it for a spin as much as possible. Living out of town, Tania does all kinds of fun things and sometimes brings treats into the office for us.

Sydney Nickel

Legal Assistant

Sydney joined TLR Law in 2025 after earning her B.A. in Criminal Justice and working as an Administrative Assistant for the government. She initially set her sights on paralegal work, but working here sparked an unexpected passion for corporate law. When she’s not supporting the team, you’ll find her planning her upcoming wedding, enjoying summer camping trips with friends, or putting her creative skills to work on stage and lighting design for local events.
