Philippe Richer

Lawyer & Principal

Philippe had worn many hats before beginning his career as a lawyer. He spent time in the army, he worked in sales, and for a brief time was a baker at a local bakery. After a divorce, Philippe decided to go to law school in Manitoba. Despite wanting to be a veterinarian as a child and an aspiring comedian later in life (no one found him funny…), he now focusses on running the firm in St. Boniface.

Philippe is also multilingual. After travelling to Mexico more times than one can count, he is completely fluent in tourist Spanish and of course French. He also enjoyed the time he spent touring Europe, experiencing the culture, food and history there. On the weekend Philippe will usually be cycling or skiing. He likes to live actively with his partner, Cheryl.

Philippe is very knowledgeable in multiple areas of law. While he used to practice criminal law, he now mainly focuses on Corporate Law, Real Estate Law, Wills and Estate Planning. He authored the business law course for the Knowledge Bureau and presented at their annual conferences.  He also taught the français juridique class at the faculty of law for 5 years.  He is currently the president of the St-Boniface francophone chamber of commerce and sits on the board of the Association of francophone jurists of Manitoba.

Cheryl Pearson

Lawyer Co-Owner

Cheryl developed her legal skills working mostly as a corporate and commercial and real estate lawyer. She has worked on a variety of commercial transactions ranging from helping sole proprietors sell their small business to very large transactions involving US parties. Cheryl enjoys the challenge of negotiating through difficult transactions and fighting for her clients.

Cheryl also enjoys spending time with her spouse (Philippe, the other co-owner), and her dog, Milou (who can often be found under her desk at work.).  They like to walk, cycle, ski, hike and run. Cheryl is an avid runner and likes to go on cycling trips with Philippe and Milou (who enjoys either running alongside, or riding in the trailer).

Darryl Strain

Lawyer

Darryl joined TLR Law in 2020 after his call to the Manitoba Bar earlier the same year. Before practicing law, Darryl enjoyed a successful career as a professional musician most notably as Principal Second Violin with the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra. He now is a board member for the Winnipeg Youth Orchestras. While Darryl still finds time to fine tune his skills as a violinist, he now focuses on the practice of law, having earned his Juris Doctor at the University of Manitoba where he received a Schwartz/Reisman scholarship for academic excellence and community involvement, and the Judge Ross A. Johnston Prize for Family Law. His practice includes TLR’s core areas of wills and estates, real estate, and corporate matters, though he has also been known to delve into other fields.

Darryl enjoys spending time with his two girls and connecting with families at their dance schools or horseback riding lessons. He comes from a bilingual household, having learned to speak French with the help of his Montréalaise fiancée and talented WSO violinist Julie. Julie and their two daughters have mastered the collective “sad puppy look” to ask Darryl to approve unwise plans such as adopting large litters of tiny kittens (“Papa, can we keep them?”). Darryl has been known to take in fresh air on his bike or by walking through Fort Whyte’s scenic nature trails.

Tania Toth

Real Estate Paralegal

Before starting her career as a paralegal, Tania was a skilled bartender and server for over a decade! She has been with us since 2018 and we’ve kept her busy ever since! Often on the weekend she spends her time with family and playing with her 6 mini goats. Yes, that’s right, I said 6! She recently got her first snowmobile, she likes to take it for a spin as much as possible. Living out of town, Tania does all kinds of fun things and sometimes brings treats into the office for us.
